DESIGN & RETAIL
CAREER FAIR
The Design & Retail Career Fair is an event aimed at allowing College of Design students to meet industry professionals and get ahead in their career planning.
PROJECT BRIEF
The Design & Retail Career Fair was a brand new event to first be held in Fall 2023. Because this event was targeted at design majors, it was essential that the event held a strong visual identity. The design could be open ended– the only constraint was that it reflect the majors served at the event. With this in mind, I presented two visual directions with several color ways. Of these, the last was chosen by the Career & Internship Services staff and the design faculty.
VISUAL IDENTITY
The visual identity of the fair reflects both the majors the fair serves as well as th the identity of the University of Minnesota. The base design represents each of the majors served by the fair (retail merchandising, apparel design, graphic design, and product design) through icons. These icons are created with similar attributes– line weight, color, straight and curved lines– to unify them with each other. The primary colors used are derived from the UMN maroon and gold.

PHYSICAL MATERIALS
Physical promotionaly materials for the fairs included flyers and quartersheets. Physical materials present at the event itself included an informational booklet with a floorpan.
INFORMATION BOOTH
The Career & Internship Services information booth displayed a stanchion banner advertising our services, information on the fair, a card explaining how to sign up for a new service– Quinncia–, and a copy of the office annual statistics as shown through infographics. A custom tablecloth featuring the office and university logos were
also created.
DIGITAL MATERIALS
Several digital materials were used to promote the event, including social media posts and graphics for the website and email newsletter.
